Terms and Conditions Magazine (TACM) is an Instagram hosted writing and visual blog circulating thoughts on material conditions as mediated by digital culture. By integrating the long form into the short form, TACM aims to push the limits of the architectural affordances of social media. The essays, which range from three to ten 1080x1080 slides, are contextualized by found image and video content integrated into the written works and posted individually.

Through the Front Camera: Renegotiating the terms of our digital narcissism

Despite our recent acknowledgment of screen addiction as a public health emergency, we have yet to fully consider the stakes of building a digital persona. What if we reconsidered our digital lives not in terms of mental health but the mental itself? Using Sigmund Freud’s theories of primary and secondary narcissism as a framework, this work considers the stakes of personal technologies usage from the seemingly benign to the pressingly violent.
